Distance: 40kms/25mi (Roundtrip) Difficulty: High Place: Rio Serrano Village to Grey Lookout
We begin our day of horseback riding at Villa Río Serrano. Our guide will register visitors at the southern gate of the National Park, and we will head towards the Grey Glacier sector.
During the first part we ride through a typical Magellan pampa; ideal place to warm up our muscles little by little and gradually increase the pace; from a light step to a trot, and after getting warmed up, we will take the first gallops of the day.
We will cross the Grey River bridge and begin to go up this river, being able to appreciate its milky-gray waters, which owe this tonality to the great presence of sediments that come from the melting of glaciers. We will also have in sight the imposing Paine Massif, accompanied by its varied and abundant flora and fauna.
After about 3 hours of horseback riding, we will be approaching the Guadería Grey area; where we will leave our horses tied and we will go a few meters on foot, to go along the beach that borders the Grey Lake, to the viewpoint of the homonymous Glacier.
It should be noted that the viewpoint is about 17kms. of the vertical wall of the Grey Glacier; so for those who want to have a view from very close to the glacier, we can schedule a space for you on the Grey III boat, which navigates along the entire south face of the glacier.
(Navigation is optional; for an extra cost, it lasts approximately 3 hours and includes transfer back to Villa Serrano by vehicle)
In case of not taking the navigation, we will return to where our horses are, to enjoy our Box Lunch and rest for a few minutes. After this, we will begin the return bordering the Grey River towards the southern entrance of the National Park. After about 2 to 3 hours (depending on the pace at which we go), we will end our adventure when we arrive back to Villa Río Serrano.
It is undoubtedly a long day of approximately 6 hours on the saddle, in which we will intersperse moments of walking, trotting and galloping, which requires previous experience and a physical state accustomed to practicing some physical activity.
* We provide helmets and gaiters. A local baqueano and a Spanish / English guide will be in charge of the ride.
